CREATE SPACE – FUNCTION MIXER

The House is designed to inter-mix the three primary usages – Living + Working + Sleeping

Instead of creating recreation areas for each member of the family separately, consolidated living spaces are provided. This compels the members to step out of their private abodes and gather for newspaper chat, morning coffee, cricket matches or Ps3.

Lack of physical partitions (doors or walls) between Living Spaces and strategically placed atriums ensure that spaces blend into the other either physically or visually to maintain continuity.

The Utility Areas too, like the staircase, add to the Living Space by serving as a library or a display unit.

ACKNOWLEDGING CONTEXT

The plot is positioned across the 1 Acre sector Park. The massing of the house is designed to enjoy this green vicinity. This is done by two specific moves:

  1. Extension of Living Spaces – Each covered program extends onto a semi-covered or open program. This maybe through balconies or overlooking terraces. These extensions also have a seasonal impact. For example, the house offers a shaded summer terrace on the north and an open winter terrace to the south- allowingthe inhabitants to utilise both the indoors and outdoors.
  2. Visual Connect – The views of the park from each living space is framed by a second concrete skin.

There is an attempt to enhance walled spaces through architectural detail. For the same intention, the house permits abundant natural diffused light. Be it through large northern glazings or the skylights.
